Phone scams in the Philippines follow a predictable pattern. First, the scammer contacts you by call or text, often using a mobile number that looks legitimate. They establish trust by pretending to be from a known organization.
Next, they create urgency or fear — telling you your bank account is compromised, you have an unpaid bill, or a loved one is in danger. This pressure is designed to prevent you from thinking clearly.
Then comes the ask: they want your personal information, a money transfer via GCash or bank deposit, or for you to click on a link. Once they have what they need, they disappear and are difficult to trace.
Red flags include: unsolicited calls asking for personal info, pressure to act immediately, requests for OTPs or PINs, threats of legal action, and promises of prizes you never entered to win.
